week 6 at the MTC

Good morning, how's everyone doing? I hope all is well and that you are all doing good. Things at the MTC are still good. We've got some new missionaries coming in tomorrow, so that's the biggest news we've got.
Because of the 6 week interval, new leadership was assigned. My companion got called as our district leader and now I switch to being junior companion for our remaining time at the MTC. I got told that it is not easy being a koohai but I'm excited to just take that step back and being able to learn from my companion.
Sunday we took some awesome pictures using of the sensei's japanese flags (the old WWII-looking ones!!) It was pretty sweet, I'll send them as soon as possible. Oh and last week we had Elder Oaks come speak to us during our tuesday night devotional!! It was great he talked about the Spirit and how we can have it if we partake of the sacrament with the right spirit and actions. It was great to have an apostle of Jesus Christ come speak to us. Like one of the Elders in our District said: it was like sitting at the feet of Paul as he taught the members in the Holy Land. The Spirit was just amazing at that devotional!
This last week we got to teach our first lesson in Japanese. It went well, but it was filled with a lot of pauses (as you can imagine), but my companion and I did a good job I think. I was even able to recite the Joseph Smith experience by memory. It was great and it was the first one of many. Speaking of Japanese, yesterday we had an english-fast. Or, in nihon-go, a 'ei-go danjiki.' :) We didn't speak english the whole entire day and our district did really well. It was just between the 12 of us and it was way cool. It was funny though, trying to talk to other missionaries and you have to do this little charades game thing. It was great.
This Sunday we threw a little surprise party (not really party, because it was sunday, but a little district get together) for Elder Barrus' 20th birthday. It was awesome. His mom sent me this box full of little party things and a bunch of candy and put me in charge of it on behalf of their family. It was a good time.
So these last couple of weeks have been somewhat frustrating but they've been good. I'm just a little nervous about me being able to know the language and we only have 5 weeks until we go to Japan. But at the same time, Heavenly Father has given me - all of us really - a great gift. He's given us the ability to pray to Him. So that through prayer we can feel His love, and fell comfort and peace. There have been so many nights now that I've been exhausted and frustrated. But as soon as I speak those words 'ai suru ten no otosama,' all of that just goes away and I'm left with feelings of peace and joy and I'm able to go to sleep much faster. Prayer is amazing. Much of that same Spirit I felt greatly today at the Temple, but the fact that we can have that feeling every day when we pray: that is a true gift. I'm grateful for all of you. I'm grateful for your prayers, and I know that they've helped me. And I pray every night for Heavenly father to bless my friends and family. You're important to me and he know that. Heavenly Father loves every single one of you and wants to talk to you. He knows what you want, He's just waiting for you to ask Him for it. I've grown to have a greater testimony of prayer. And through prayer I've been able to be closer to my Father in Heaven. And I'm so grateful for it.
Well, I hope you all have a great week. Today I'll be accompanying one of the elders from our district to Babylon - the outside world haha. He needs physical therapy for his shoulder so we all take turns in being with him. I'll tell you about it next week.

Bom dia, como estao indo? Eu espero que tudo esteja bem e que todo mundo esteja bom. As coisas no CTM ainda estao boas. Nos estamos tendo missionarios novos vindo amanha, e essas sao as maiores noticias que temos.
Por causa do intervalo de 6 semanas, a lideranca nova foi assinada. O meu companheiro foi chamado como o nosso lider de distrito e agora eu estou mudando a ser o companheiro junior pelo resto do tempo no MTC. Falaram pra mim que nao eh facil ser um koohai mas eu estou feliz em dar um paco pra traz e poder aprender do meu companheiro.
No domingo tiramos umas fotos muito legais usando um das bandeiras japonesas do sensei (a bandeira antiga da Segunda Guerra mundial!!) Foi muito legal, eu vou mandar elas o mais cedo possivel. Oh e semana passada nos tivemos o Elder Oaks vir falar pra gente durante a devocional da terca-feira de noite! Foi otimo e ele falou do Espirito e como nos podemos ter Ele quando tomamos o sacramento com o Espirito certo e certas acoes. Foi otimo ter um Apostolo de Jesus Cristo vir falar pra gente. Como um dos elderes no nosso distrito falou: foi como estivemos sentados no pe de Paulo enquanto ele ensinou os membros na Terra Santa. O Espirito foi maravilhoso durante a devocional!
Essa semana passada ensinamos a nossa primeira licao em Japones. Foi bem, mas foi cheio de pausas (como voces podem imaginar), mas o meu companheiro e eu fizemos bem eu acho. Eu ateh pudi recitar a experiencia de Joseph Smith de memoria. Foi otimo e o primeiro de muitos mais. Falando de Japones, ontem tivemos um jejum de Ingles. Ou, em nihon-go, um "ei-go danjiki." :) Nao falamos Ingles o dia inteiro e o nosso distrito fez muito vem. Soh era entre nos 12 e foi legal. Foi engracado, entretanto, tentando falar com outros missionarios e voce tem que jogar esse jogo de "charades". Foi otimo.
Esse domingo jogamos uma festinha de surpresa (nao uma festa realmente, porque era domingo, mas um encontro de distrito) pro aniversario de 20 anos de idade do Elder Barrus. Foi legal. A mae dele mandou essa caixa cheia de coisinhas pra festas e um monte de docinhos e me botou pra tomar conta disso em nome da familia dele. Foi um tempo bom.
Entao essas ultimas semanas tem sido meio frustrante mas boas. Eu soh estou meio nervoso sobre eu conseguindo falar a lingua e soh temos 5 semanas ateh quando vamos pro Japao. Mas no mesmo tempo, o Pai Celestial tem me dado- todos nos realmente- um presente otimo. Ele tem nos dado a abilidade de orar pra Ele. Assim pela oracao nos podemos sentir o amor Dele, e sentir conforto e paz. Eu tenho tido tantas noites agora que estive exausto e frustrado. Mas assim que eu falo as palavras "ai suru ten no otosama", tudo vai embora e o que eh deixado eh sentimentos de paz e felicidade e eu posso conseguir dormir muito mais rapido. Oracao eh maravilhoso. Muito daquele mesmo Espirito eh sentido consideralvemente no Templo, mas a verdade que nos podemos ter aquele espirito todo dia quando fazemos oracao: isso eh um presente verdadeiro. Eu estou grato por todos voces. Eu sou grato por suas oracoes, e eu sei que eles tem me ajudado. E eu oro toda noite pro Pai Celestial pra abencoar os meus amigos e familia. Voces sao importantes pra mim e Ele sabe disso. O Pai Celestial ama cada um de voces e quer falar com voces. Ele sabe o que voce quer, e Ele soh espera que voce pergunte. Eu tenho crescido a ter um testemunho melhor de oracao. E por oracao eu tenho sentido mais perto do meu Pai no ceu. E eu sou muito grato por isso.
Bem, eu espero que voces todos tenham uma semana otima. Hoje eu vou acompanhar um dos elderes do meu distrito pra Babilonia- o mundo de fora haha. Ele precisa de terapia fisica pro ombro dele entao todo mundo tem chance de estar com ele. Eu vou falar pra voces semana que vem.
