Week 1 and 2 at MTC

Hello everyone!
Yay, so Pam was right, we do get to use e-mail at the MTC. Awesome!> My first week in the MTC has been extremly remarkable. I've learned more in the past week about the gospel, planning, organization, language than I have in the past year! It's been so amazing to be able to feel the Spirit so strongly, and to be able to really listen to the promptings and the guidance of the spirit. I am really learning how to listen better to the spirit, and it's been awesome.
Anyways, I just want everyone to know how much I appreciate everything you've ever done for me, especially in the past few months, even in a small way. All of you have touched my life and I am so grateful for it. I am grateful for my family (watashi wa kazoku o kansha shite imasu!!) and I want you to know how much I love you. You are all amazing examples to me.
This last week I received a companion, Elder Walter. He's one of Elder Tonk's (one of Bennion Stake's missionaries) good friends from the Portland area. So be sure to tell him haha! I was made senior companion and that will change in another 6 weeks. It's been pretty awesome. He's an amazing Elder, with a great spirit and great tesimony. We get along really well, and I'm grateful to have him as a companion. It's been so humbling to see all these amazing missionaries, and how great their testimonies are, and to know that we're true servants of the Lord Jesus Christ. It's so humbling to think about the task at hand, and how much I'm grateful to be here!> Oh and speaking of Elders, I met one 'Elder Varjao'. He's from Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil (Brasil hehe) and he's an awesome elder. He has had to learn both English and Japanese in the last 7 weeks he's been here. I know that the Lord has used His power to help him, because he is mastering both languages at an incredible speed. We became good friends and we are always talking in either portuguese or English. I also met up with Elder Ellsworth from USU's AFROTC det. 860, who is Varjao's companion, and Elder Barrus from USU as well, in fact he's one of my roommates!
We've been really busy. There's so much to do , and I feel like we're never gonna get everything done, but at the end of the day, we get everything done and more! It's hard, but it's so worth it. I've leearned how to plan better, how to organize and manage my time like I have never done before. It is amazing what we can do when we pray to Heavenly Father to help us accomplish things. Not only in the mission, but our lives.
Well I don't have a whole lot of time on the computer, we only have 30 minutes. But again I want you to know how much each of you mean to me. And that I'm so grateful to be here, to learn how I can preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and bring that message of the restoration to the people of Japan. I know that he's my Savior, and that he truly lives, loves, and cares about every single one of us. I know that Joseph Smith is a true prophet of God, and that through him, we are able to partake of the message of the restored Gospel, and have joy in our lives.
On last note, there's a couple of things that I'm gonna need:
-Silvia, since I don't have much time, if you could please translate this to portuguese for the rest of the family in Brazil, I would appreciate it. Not only would it make it easier for me to write you longer letters, but it would help your portuguese a bit as well (get you ready to go visit, haha!) Oh and I sent the forwarding list to mom vial regular mail and so have her give it to you. Oh and please add Susan's e-mail to it as well if you could (and anyone else who asks hehe) Thank you so much!
-Mom, could you please send the following?: my pillow (the ones here are like sleeping on Eggo waffles), my black adidas (yes we do play soccer here, yes!!), and could you buy me a headband, like for sports? I sweat so much so the last half of gym time I spend wiping sweat from my eyes! It burns soooooo bad! haha, that would be great mom, thank you!

Things have been going really well here at the MTC, tomorrow will mark my 2nd week here, with 9.5 weeks to go til I leave for Japan! We do quite a bit more than I thought, but it's amazing how much you learn when you spend 16 hours a day studying it. HAHA No but in all seriousness, it's awesome. I love the people, and I love the gospel (watashi wa fukuin o ai shite imasu) and there's no other place I'd rather be right now.
Every week we get at least 3 large group instruction times: Sunday night Fireside, Tuesday Night Devotional, and a Large Group Meeting on monday. The fireside and devotionals are amazing, and so spiritual. They usually have general authorities speak, which is way cool (like last Sunday we had Bishop Edgley from the presiding Bishopric speak to us) and it's immensely refreshing to us, being out of a classrooom, to hear the word of God through His servants. I love it. Oh, and my companion and I are singing in the MTC choir!! It's so nice!
Last week, after the Tuesday night devotional, we had a District Devotional review, where we get together as a district (there's 12 of us, I'll send you pictures) and discuss what we learned in the devotional, and how we can apply it to our work. I've gotta say, those are one of the most powerful small group meetings I've ever been in! Last week, we all bore our tesimonies, and the Spirit was so strong, that most of us started to just cry. It was humbling and amazing to be around such great Elders, and to be able to hear their testimonies. I felt that we became more united, and I could really feel that love that being brothers in the gospel brings. I love every one of those Elders. They're truly servants of God.
I've had so many wonderful personal experiences with prayer and the Spirit as well. Last night, after pondering what we discussed ealier in class about testimonies, I was prompted to ask, and really seek out the answer. I've known it all along, but I wanted to know that this is Heavenly Father has for me. Well, after I asked in my prayer, I layed there and just thought about in my heart, when I received an answer. It was as though God was talking to me right there and then... I felt such an overwhelming feeling of joy and comfort, and He told me what I had to do. And it's that I'll be working hard, not because I need to occupy my mind, nor is it to build my testimony, but to be able to bring souls unto Him. And I'm so excited because of it! We are actually gonna start teaching lessons in Japanese this thursday to volunteers (sometimes real investigators), and even though I'm a little nervous, I'm so excited!! I can't wait to go to Japan and spread the good news to those people that God has prepared.
Well, I have had my share of fun here too. One of my roomates is Elder Barrus (he goes to USU as well) and him and I end up quoting Top Gun lines at random hhahaha. And there are some awesome elders that just crack me up too. We pretty much have gym everyday except for tuesdays and sundays. And as you would imagine, I play soccer, haha! It's so much fun to take a break from learning and really push my body for 45 minutes and have fun. That's wisdom of the brethren right there!! Oh and on a related note: I ran out of regular garments last saturday (because of having to change for gym), so I've been wearing my thermal garments for the last 2 days. Yeah, not good, not good.... haha Well I did a wash finally today, but I do need some money for garments. I ended up checking my balance, and I'm 44 dollars in the red, without having used my card from Deseret First CU at all! Mom could you please check that ASAP please, so I can buy some garments? Thank you!
Well, I only have a half hour so I'll finish it up. I want you to know that I love you all, and I wish that I could write you all individually, but I don't have as much time as I want. So, if you could please send the adressessof the following people:

Elder Mourao

Oi todo mundo!Ae, entao a Pam estava certa, a gente pode usar email no MTC. Legal!Minha primeira semana no MTC tem sido extremamente remarcavel. Eu aprendi mais nessa semana sobre o Evangelho, planejamento, e a lingua do que nesse ultimo ano! Tem sido tao maravilhoso de poder sentir o Espirito tao forte, e de poder realmente ouvir as inspiracoes e a guia do Espirito. Eu realmente estou aprendendo como ouvir o Espirito, e esta sendo otimo.
De qualquer jeito, eu soh queria que todo mundo soubesse como eu aprecio tudo que voces fizeram por mim, especialmente nesses ultimos meses, mesmo num jeito pequeno. Todos voces tocaram minha vida e eu sou muito grato por isso. Eu sou muito grato por minha familia (watashi wa kazoku o kansha imasu!!) e quero que voces saibam quanto eu amo voces. Voces sao exemplos maravilhosos pra mim.
Nessa ultima semana eu recebi um companheiro, Elder Walter. Ele eh um dos melhores amigos do Elder Tonk (um dos missionarios da Estaca Bennion), da area de Portland. Entao faca certeza de falar pra ele hahah! Eu fui feito senhor companheiro e isso vai mudar daqui as 6 semanas. Tem sido otimo. Ele eh um Elder maravilhoso, com um Espirito e testemunho otimos. Nos somos bem amigos, e eu sou grato de ter ele como meu companheiro. Tem sido humilde de ver todos esses missionarios fantasticos, e os testemunhos maravilhosos dele, e de saber que somos empregados verdadeiros do Senhor Jesus Cristo. Eh humilde de pensar sobre a tarefa agora, e como sou grato de estar aqui!
Oh e falando de Elderes, eu conheci um 'Elder Varjao'. Ele eh de Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil (Brasil eheh) e ele eh um Elder muito bom. Ele teve que aprender ambos Ingles e Japones nas ultimas 7 semanas que ele esteve aqui. Eu sei que o Senhor tem usado o poder Dele pra ajudar ele, porque ele estah dominando ambas linguas numa velocidade incrivel. A gente se tornou amigos bons e sempre falamos em Portugues ou Ingles. Eu tambem encontrei com o Elder Ellsworth do USU AFROTC det.860, que eh o companheiro do Varjao, e o Elder Barrus do USU tambem, e pra falar a verdade ele eh um dos meus companheiros de quarto!
Estamos muito ocupados. Tem tanto pra fazer, e eu sinto que nunca vamos fazer tudo que tem que fazer, mas no final do dia, fazemos tudo e mais! Eh dificil, mas vale a pena. Eu tenho aprendido como planejar melhor, como organizar e controlar meu tempo como nunca fiz antes. Eh maravilhoso o que nos podemos fazer quando oramos pro Pai Celestial pra ajudar a fazer as coisas. Nao soh na missao, mas nas nossas vidas.
Bom, eu nao tenho muito tempo no computador, soh temos 30 minutos. Mas outra vez, eu quero que voces saibam quanto que voces significam pra mim. E eu sou tao grato de estar aqui ae aprender como eu posso ensinar o Evangelho de Jesus Cristo, e trazer a mensagem da restoracao para as pessoas do Japao. Eu sei que Ele eh meu Salvador, e que Ele realmente vive, ama e por Ele, nos podemos partilhar da mensagem do Evangelho restorado, e ter alegria nas nossas vidas. Na ultima nota, tem algumas coisas que eu preciso:
-Silvia, desde que eu nao tenho muito tempo, se voce pudesse traduzir isso pra Portugues pro resto da familia no Brasil, eu agradeceria. Nao somente ficaria mais facil pra mim escrever cartas mais compridas, mas ajudaria com o seu Portugues tambem (prepararia pra quando voce visitar, haha!) Oh e eu mandei a lista de emails pra passar pra frente pra mae pelo correio entao peca pra ela te dar. Oh e por favor coloque o email da Susan na lista tambem se voce puder (e qualquer outra pessoa que pedir hehe) Muito obrigado!
-Mae, voce poderia por favor mandar os seguintes?: meu travesseiro (os que eu uso parecem que eu durmo em Eggo waffles), meus tenis pretos Adidas (sim, jogamos futebol aqui, YES!!) e por favor poderia me comprar um 'headband', como pra esportes? Eu suo tanto que na ultima metade do tempo de ginasio eu fico limpando suor dos meus olhos! Queima tanto! haha Seria otimo mae, obrigado!

ok, entao esse email foi da semana passada... eu tentei mandar ele, e eu acabei de ver que nao foi porque eu mandei pro email da Silvia myself2qt@yahoo.com, entao esse devera ir! hahaha Obrigado por ser pacientes, e eu agradeco as cartas que eu recebi da Silvia e o pai, eu amo muito voces!

As coisas andam bem aqui no MTC. Amanha vai marcar a 2a semana aqui, com 9.5 semanas pra ir ateh quando eu saio pro Japao. A gente faz muito mais do que eu pensava, mas eh legal quanto voce aprende quando voce estuda a lingua 16 horas por dia. HAHA Nao, mas serio, eh maravilhoso. Eu amo as pessoas, e eu amo o evangelho (watashi wa fukuin o ai shite imasu) e nao tem nenhum lugar melhor de estar a nao ser aqui.
Toda semana nos temos pelo menos 3 tempos de instrucoes de grupos grandes: Fireside de domingo de noite, devocional da terca de noite, e uma reuniao de grupo grande na segunda. A fireside e as devocionais sao otimas, e tao espirituais. Eles geralmente tem autoridades gerais dando discurso, que eh bem legal (como domingo passado tivemos o Bispo Edgley da Presidencia Bispado discursar) e eh imensamente refrescante pra nos, ficando fora da classe, pra escutar a palavra de Deus pelos empregados Dele. Eu amo isso. Oh, e o meu companheiro e eu estamos cantando no coro do MTC! Eh tao legal! Semana passada, depois da devocional de terca de noite, tivemos uma revisao da devocional de distrito, onde se encontramos como um distrito (tem 12 de nos, eu vou mandar fotos), e discutimos o que aprendemos na devocional, e como podemos aplicar pro nosso trabalho. Eu tenho que falar, esses sao uma das reunioes mais poderosas de grupo pequenos que eu ja estive!
Semana passada, prestamos os nossos testemunhos e o Espirito estava tao forte, que a maioria de nos comecamos a chorar. Foi humilde e otimo de estar em volta de cada Elder maravilhoso, e de poder escutar os testemunhos deles. Eu senti que ficamos mais unidos, e eu pudi realmente sentir o amor que sendo irmaos no Evangelho traz. Eu amo cada um daqueles Elderes. Eles sao realmente empregados de Deus.
Eu estive tendo tantas experiencias maravilhosas com oracao e o Espirito tambem. Ontem a noite, depois de pensar o que discutimos antes na classe sobre testemunhos, eu fui inspirado a perguntar, e realmente procurar a resposta. Eu sempre soube o tempo todo, eu estava deitado e soh pensei com o meu coracao, quando eu recebi a resposta. Foi como Deus estava falando comigo lah... Eu senti, um sentimento de felicidade e conforto enorme, e Ele me falou o que eu tenho que fazer. E eh que eu vou estar trabalhando duro, nao eh porque eu tenho que ocupar minha mente, e tambem nao eh que eh pra construir o meu testemunho, mas eh pra poder trazer almas pra Ele. E eu estou tao feliz por isso! A gente vai comecar a ensinar licoes em Japones esta quinta feira pra voluntarios (as vezes investigadores verdadeiros), e mesmo que eu estou meio nervoso, estou contente! Eu nao consigo mais esperar a ir pro Japao e propagar as boas noticias para aquelas pessoa que Deu preparou.
Bem, eu tive a minha parte de divertimento aqui tambem. Um dos meus companheiros de quarto eh o Elder Barrus (ele foi pro USU tambem) e eu e ele sempre acabamos a repetir linhas do Top Gun hahaha. E tambem tem uns elderes muito legais que me fazem rir tambem. A gente tem ginasio todo dia menos tercas e domingos. E como voces imaginam, eu jogo futebol, haha! E tao divertido de ter um tempo de aprender e realmente puxar meu corpo por 45 minutos e se divertir. Isso eh sabedoria dos irmaos ai! Oh, e numa nota relatando sobre isso: eu nao tive mais garmentes regulares, sabado passado (por causa que eu tive que trocar depois do ginasio), entao eu tive vestido os meus garmentes termicos pelos ultimos 2 dias. Eh... nao eh bom, nao eh bom... haha Bem, eu lavei eles hoje, mas eu preciso de dinheiro pra mais garmentes. Eu acabei checando a minha balanca no banco, e eu estou $44 no vermelho, sem usado o meu cartao do Deseret First Credit Union! Mae, voce poderia checar isso o mais cedo possivel, por favor, assim eu posso comprar mais garmentes? Obrigado!
